Securing the most popular broadcasts in the world

A European broadcaster produces premium quality content that is widely licensed around the world.

Due to its high quality, this content is a prime target of illegal redistribution. To protect its value, the broadcaster needs a robust anti-piracy protection solution for thousands of non-live assets. The customer also aims to establish itself as industry advocates for anti-piracy efforts, wanting to be recognised as thought leaders by implementing and proving the success of strong anti-piracy measures.

Problem

  • Content is widely distributed and easily accessible in certain locations
  • Thousands of non-live assets to protect
  • Content needs to be kept geographically exclusive for commercial agreements with broadcasters overseas

The broadcaster needed to protect key titles that included popular scripted content.

As well as being available live on television and on-demand, some content is also licensed exclusively to its partner distribution networks and platforms elsewhere in the world. Maintaining the geographical exclusivity of their content for their licensees was key to enabling continued monetisation.

The customer began initial discussions with FMTS about how to protect their high-quality scripted and unscripted content.

Solution

  • Automated search and capture technologies
  • Global content monitoring and enforcement
  • Expedited escalation to the infrastructure providers

Analyse-3

FMTS began a comprehensive investigation involving analysis of the scale and scope of piracy of the assets.

Once the initial investigative work was complete, the customer employed FMTS's global monitoring platform to protect thousands of non-live assets. This service uses proprietary datasets and highly efficient, automated processes to scan for infringing content, at huge scale.

Enforcement methods employed included cease-and-desist notices, DMCA strikes and escalation notices to ISPs. This combination of enforcement methods is very successful at successfully taking pirate operators offline. When notices aren't successful, FMTS collects evidence of non-compliance to be used in future legal challenges to maximise enforcement efficiency and effectiveness.

We’re delighted this customer is so satisfied with their current service and that they would recommend us to other providers within the industry.
